8/14/03 GADR Belt Buckle Ready For Immediate Release Contact: Dave Johnson/ dave@swnm.com /(505) 544-3483 469-4650 (Deming)--An annual tradition continues this year with the Great American Duck Race Belt Buckle raffle. Indian Craftsman Dennis Eaglestar, for the 24th consecutive year, has designed another winner. This year's buckle features a stone studded duck with the American flag, surrounded by stars. The buckle includes turquoise, coral, mother of pearl, spinal shell and sugulite, set on a sterling silver buckle. There is even a simulated hole for the logo's "dog tag" effect. The buckle is valued at between $800-1000. The belt buckle has been an annual rivalry for many, as they buy up tickets to try to win the exclusive one-of-a-kind creation. In the past individual have purchased up to $100 in tickets for a chance to win. Some actually have a collection of buckles from several years. Eaglestar still has the drawings for all 24 designs. He said "it would be great if someone commissioned the creation of all 24 for display in the museum." Eaglestar said he is willing if the financial backing comes along. Tickets are $10 each, and only 100 tickets will be sold. Those tickets can be purchased at the Deming Luna County Chamber of Commerce, Circle S Western Emporium, and Southwestern New Mexico On-Line all in Deming. Tickets will also be available duck race weekend at the T-Shirt/Information booth. Drawing will be Sunday afternoon, August 24, shortly before the duck race finals. The buckle will be on display through Tuesday at the Chamber of Commerce. For more information on this year's duck race, visit www.demingduckrace.com or call toll free at 888 345-1125. The Great American Duck Race is sponsored in part by Border Foods of Deming.
