Ron and Dana Bivens, working managers of the Hat Creek Saloon, will lead this year's parade, and are excited at the prospect. Ron and Dana Bivens have been Luna County residents since 1972. Ron was raised in Hachita and Lordsburg, New Mexico. He graduated from Lordsburg High in 1964. Dana was raised in Los Lunas and graduated from Los Lunas High in 1968. After one year of college in Alpine, Tx, Dana transfered to New Mexico State University. Ron was attending New Mexico State University in Las Cruces in 1969. While in Las Cruces, Ron started playing with the Clay Mac Band. Clay is Dana's brother and when she moved to Las Cruces she too joined the Band. They traveled with the Clay Mac Band for twenty plus years. In the course of which, they fronted or played back up for over fifty major artists. They played venues from the Houston Astro Dome and the Pan Am Center to the Hachita Bar and the Cliff Cow Palace. Their run took them from Las Vegas for a six week stint at the Union Plaza to Courd d'Alene, Idaho at a lake side resort. From Tulsa Oklahoma to Apache Grove Arizona, and Miles and Miles and Miles of Texas in 1979 thru 1981. They settled in Deming for good in 1983. When first returning to Deming, Ron taught guitar lessons and Dana sold adds for the Copper Shopper. In 1987 they took over the management of the Hat Creek Saloon, which was called the El Portal at that time, and have been working managers since. For the past several years, the Hat Creek Saloon has hosted the Duck race dances on both Friday and Saturday nights, which they will do again this year. Ron owns Moon County Productions, a talent booking agency that was started in 1972. Dana has a weekly radio show on KOTS 1230 AM in Deming (Dave and Dana Show, Wednesdays from 7 until 9 pm) and an Income Tax business. Ron and Dana have one son, Tyson. He graduated with Honors form NM State University in December, and a new grandson born May 3, 2009. Dana has also tossed her hat in the ring for appointment to the County Commission seat vacated with the resignation of Becky Gilmore. The Great American Duck Race is August 20th-23rd, with the parade Saturday morning at 10 am. The Great American Duck Race is sponsored in part by Luna Energy Facility.
