GADR Logo and Theme Announced For Immediate Release 6/8/10 Contact: Dave Johnson Publicity Quacker (575) 543-8600 dave@demingduckrace.com (Deming)--Ahoy matties! This year theme for the 31st Annual Great American Duck Race is "pirates". For the second year, this year's logo was created by Jesse Kriegel, an art teacher at Deming High School. Kriegel was born outside of El Paso, and moved to Deming as a freshman in High School. He is married to his wife, Liz, and they have two sons, ages five years and 11 months. Kriegel also sketched the "Elvis" duck for last year's Duck Race with the "Rock N Roll" theme. This year's duck race logo features a pirate duck complete with skull and crossbones cap, eye patch, hook and bandanna. The duck is leaning on a "2010" cannon, and the bird has a bird, in this case a parrot, on his shoulder. The logo is finished off with a ship's wheel in the background, and banner proclaiming "31st Annual". Final creative work, including the actual layout, was done by Gabe Dominguez of All Things Created. The Pirate theme will be used for judging in both the Duck Royalty Pageant Thursday night, and the Tournament of Ducks Parade Saturday morning. The Great American Duck Race will be held Thursday, August 26th through Sunday, August 29th. Most events are at the Luna County Courthouse Park. Duck Racing in Saturday and Sunday only.
