For Immediate Release Contact: Dave Johnson (575) 543-8600 (Deming)—The Great American Duck Race has always asked that pets be left at home and not brought to Courthouse Park during duck race weekend. This year there will be another option. With cooperation from the Deming Junior Humane Society, we have arranged for a kennel service at Courthouse Park. According to organizers, there will be no fixed cost, but donations will be accepted. Publicity Quacker Dave Johnson said “in the past out-of-town visitors have arrived with pets, unaware of our rules. We have asked them to leave. This year they can still enjoy the duck race, with the assurance their pets are safe.” The ban on animals includes both dogs and cats, and all breeds and sizes. Johnson said “we have had some visitors with small dogs, and they can’t understand our rules. We can’t say some dogs are ok, and others are not. We treat our ducks with kindness, and even the best of dogs can sometimes be a problem. Our rules are firm, and they apply to everyone, from spectators to vendors”. The Great American Duck Race is August 26-29th, with duck racing both Saturday and Sunday, August 28th and 29th.
