Duck Downs Shade 8/19/2010 For Immediate Release Contact: Dave Johnson 575 544-3483 dave@demingduckrace.com (Deming)-- Let there be shade! For the first time in several years, the Great American Duck Race has arranged for the construction of a supporting structure for a camoflage tarp to provide shade for the bleachers north of the duck race track at Deming Duck Downs during this year's Great American Duck Race, Saturday and Sunday, August 28th and 29th. Committee President Diana Chadborn said the structure is thanks to Solitaire Homes of Deming. For many years the National Guard provided camoflage shade, but with the many reorganizations they have been unable to do so for the past several years. The Duck Race committee has wanted to cover the bleachers, but have been unable to find someone with the expertise to create the supporting structure. Chadborn said.. "this year we found someone with the knowledge and expertise to do what we have wanted to do, and make the whole duck race experience more enjoyable for all the particpants and spectators". Duck racing begins at noon both Saturday and Sunday at McKinley Duck Downs, also know as the Luna County Courthouse Park. Festivities actually begin Thursday night, August 26th, with the Duck Royalty Pageants at 6:30 pm at the Public School's Auditorium. The Great American Duck Race is sponsored in part by Luna Energy Facility.
