d03-3.txt Duck Race in Need of Entertainers
The Great American Duck Race of Deming is giving entertainers the change to
showcase their talents. If you sing, have a band, dance, dj or perform in any manner,
we'd like you to join us August 23rd and 24th.
The Duck Race, now in it's 24th year, is an annual festival in Deming, New Mexico. This
year's theme is "Heroes of America" honoring those in the military as well as those
who fight terorism at home. The main event are live duck races on 16 foot water
and dry tracks. But the duck race is just one of the many activities.
d03-2.txt General Information
A crazy idea from a group of local businessmen to help the
area's economy has proved to be one of the top events in New Mexico.
Who would have ever thought that racing ducks would achieve the
national and international recongnition the annual Great American Duck
Race in Deming, New Mexico has through the years. The annual event
has been featured on national television, as well as locales as far away as
Japan.
The duck race has proved its staying-power as 2003 marks the 24th
anniversary. This year's event will be held August 21st-24th, with duck
racing August 23rd and 24th at the Luna County Courthouse Park
d03-1.txt 2003 Logo and Theme Announced
The Great American Duck Race Board has decided on this
year's logo and theme. The logo salutes "Heroes of America", not only
those in the military but also patriotic Americans fighting terrorism in
occupations such as firemen, policemen, rescue personnel, doctors
and nurses. The theme is used in judging both the Duck Royalty
Pageants and the Tournament of Ducks Parade.
2002 Great American Duck Race
d02-12.txt* GADR Belt Buckle Raffle
(Deming)--One tradition that will continue at the 23rd Annual Great
American Duck Race this year is the annual belt buckle raffle.
Every year since 1980, Indian Craftsman Dennis Eaglestar of Deming
has created a unique belt buckle depicting the annual event's logo.
This year the buckle will feature a duck on a water slide. The
logo was selected after the popularity of the new water race track
in 2001. This year the water track will be expanded to eight lanes,
and the races, dedicated to one of the original founders, Harold
Cousland, will carry the theme "Waves of Fun".
d02-11.txt* Tournament of Ducks Parade
(Deming)-- It may not rival the Tournament of Roses Parade, but the
Great American Duck Race Tournament of Ducks Parade is nothing to
"quack" about.
The parade, one of Deming's largest, will be on August 24th this
year, and the theme is "Waves of Fun". Your participation is
encouraged.
For an entry fee of $5, you can compete for a $50 prize for best overall
entry.
d02-10.txt* Green Chile Cookoff
(Deming)--How are your culinary skills? Do you consider yourself a good cook? If so,
then why not plan to enter the Great American Green Chile Cookoff, part of the 23rd
Annual Great American Duck Race, August 24-25, 2002 in Deming, New Mexico.
Any dish that uses green chile is eligable for the competition, and entrants must
be non-commercial food preparers. Dishes should be prepared in a 12" by 19" aluminum pan.
The preferred green chile is Border Foods Green Chile, which will be provided at no
charge to entrants, however any fresh green chile may be substituted.
d02-9.txt* GADR Balloon Rally Feature
(Deming)--One of the most colorful and high-flying events of the Great American Duck Race is
the annual Balloon Rally.
Weather permitting, the balloons ascend in the early morning both Saturday and Sunday.
The 2002 Great American Balloon Rally is August 24-25.
The annual event is headed by long-time duck race committee member and board member
Marie Pinchuk and her husband Mike.
Both Marie and Mike have been involved with the GADR Balloon Rally since moving to
Deming in May of 1990.
d02-8.txt* 2002 Grand Marshall Hillary Floren
(Deming)--Hillary Floren, one of the hosts of KVIA-TV's Good Morning El Paso, will
serve as the Grand Marshall for the Tournament of Ducks Parade, August 24th in Deming,
New Mexico.
Hillary moved to Deming at age five, but definitely considers herself a "native".
After graduating from Deming High School, she represented Deming in the Miss New
Mexico Teen USA competition, and was crowned Miss New Mexico Teen 1992. At that time
she was Hillary Matkin. Note: Download Photo Here. Photo supplied by KVIA-TV.
d02-7.txt* 2002 Duck Royalty Pageants feature Cash Prizes
(Deming)--Have you ever had the desire to waddle in public? Is your age between
0 and 100? Do you want to win money? If so then "dress like a duck" in this year's
Great American Duck Royalty Pageants, Thursday, August 22nd.
Pageant Quacker Diana Meeks said that instead of a trip as in past years, the
Duck Queen or King will receive a cash prize. Meeks said "the contestant can
still use the money for a vacation, but with the economy as it is, it can also
be used to pay bills". Cash prizes were donated by Walmart.
d02-6.txt* 2002 Duck Race Prize Money
(Deming)--Expect big prizes at this year's 23rd Annual Great American Duck Race in
Deming, New Mexico.
This year both the dry and wet track winners will be looking at a jackpot prizes.
The more people that participate, the more money offered as prizes.
Here's how it will work. Both the dry and wet track will feature eight 16 foot
long lanes for the ducks to run or swim. We have done away with the youth and adult
divisions on the dry track, and instead will offer only one division open to all.
d02-5.txt* 2002 Duck Race dedicated to Harold Cousland
(Deming)-- The 2002 Great American Duck Race will be dedicated to one of the original
founders of the annual festival, Harold Cousland.
Born in Deming in October 1942, Cousland's first brush with journalism was as
editor of his Deming High School newspaper. He continued to chase news while
attending the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he majored in journalism and
minored in history...One evening in 1980, he and a few friends met over after-work drinks to
brainstorm ways to get more people to visit Deming. Out of that meeting, with what
Cousland described as "fun-loving cohorts", was born Deming's Great American Duck Race.
d02-4.txt* Vendor Space Still Available
(Deming)--Have you already signed up as a vendor for the
Great American Duck Race? If not, time is running out.
A few spaces are still available.
We welcome all types of vendors, including crafters,
businesses, non-profit organizations, and food Vendors just
to name a few.

d02-3.txt* Show Your Support/Sponsor or Buy a T-Shirt!
(Deming)--Deming's Annual Festival which brings thousands of visitors
and tourist dollars to Deming every year, the Great American Duck Race,
is now just a little over a month away. This event is made possible
through generous sponsorship monies from local and area businesses.
Without their support this event would not be possible. The Duck
Race Committee appreciates each and every dollar received from
sponsorships, and pledge to put on a memorable event.
d02-2.txt* Entertainers Needed
(Deming)--The Great American Duck Race of Deming is giving entertainers the change to
showcase their talents. If you sing, have a band, dance, dj or perform in any manner,
we'd like you to join us August 24th and 25th.
The Duck Race, now in it's 23rd year, is an annual festival in Deming, New Mexico.
We race live ducks on 16 foot water and dry tracks. But the duck race is just one of the

Both Saturday and Sunday from noon until 6pm we allow local and area artists to showcase
their talents at the stage area in Courthouse park. There is no pay, but those who perform
will have the opportunity to appear before the thousands who attend the annual race.
The only compensation is the potential for future bookings. For those who wish, a tip
jar can be utilized.
d02-1.txt* Vendors Needed
(Deming)--Are you a crafter, business, non-profit
organization, or perhaps you sell sandwiches or other
