Deming, NM – The annual, fun-loving Great American Duck Race is celebrating its 46th Anniversary this year and it’s going to be the best one yet! Brought to you by Columbus Electric Co-Op, the Tournament of Ducks Parade will delight folks of all ages with a “Vegas Casino Duck – Press Your Luck, Race a Duck!” theme. Join the fun and enter your float, car, truck, bike or tractor to glide through downtown Deming, NM. Remember to include the theme in your float to enter to win cash prizes. The Duck Race Committee is proud to announce that the family of the late coach and beloved community pillar Ricky Baca, along with retired community member Stella Jasso, will serve as Grand Marshals for this year’s annual parade.
Stella Jasso Information:
Step aside, high rollers—Deming’s own Stella Jasso is taking center stage as this year’s Grand Marshal of the Great American Duck Races! A lifelong resident and beloved community gem, Stella has dedicated decades to civic service through the Deming Noon Lions and El Pasiano Lioness clubs, helping others see the world more clearly—literally—with her work providing glasses to those in need. By day, she was a sharp-minded bookkeeper; by night (and game day), she was the ultimate Deming Wildcats superfan, cheering from the sidelines of every field, court, and course. And when it comes to duck races? Stella’s a VIP regular—never missing a beat, a tune, or a splash. This year, we roll out the red carpet for Stella, whose legacy sparkles brighter than any jackpot. 💫
Late Ricky Baca Information:
Ricky Baca, though a man of few words, had an extraordinary ability to touch hearts. Whether on the softball field, the football field, or simply as a life coach, Ricky dedicated himself to coaching. For years, he worked closely with the youth of Deming, both on and off the field, shaping their lives. More than just a coach, Ricky was a devoted family man, a loving friend, and a steadfast follower of Christ. He left a lasting impact on many hearts. Though his life may be considered short at 47, Ricky, true to his motto, would encourage us to 'Trust the Process.' He lived each moment to the fullest, leaving a special place in the hearts of many, and in the community, Coach Baca was truly one of a kind!" This year in honor of Ricky Baca his family will be attending the festivities to accept this honor on behalf of his legacy he had in the community.
The committee is inviting all area businesses, as well as non-profits and local citizens to participate. The Columbus Electric Co-Op Tournament of Ducks Parade is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2025 beginning at 10 am.
